Day 30 - Minnesota - Upstream Arts

(Those darn state signs come up so fast!)

Hi my name is Kirsten and today I feel ADVENTUROUS (hand to brow and a sweeping look over the crowd). Hi my name is Tim and today I feel like I have done a lot of driving (hands at ten and two, clutching an invisible steering wheel). Two interpretations of the same question – no right answer, no wrong answer. Spent our day in Minneapolis, Minnesota at Upstream Arts, an organization that enhances the lives of adults and youth with disabilities by fostering creative communication and social independence through the power of arts education. Laminated, typed poetry, and participated in a classroom program at a local school. In playing various theater games, we reviewed emotion, interaction, and perception, deciphering feeling through body language. A full range of emotion was exhibited by two individuals crafting a scenario only using the phrases “yes, no, and I don’t know”. Tim and I left the classroom, giddy with the possibility of creative programs that provide the individuals the ability to create, express themselves without the constraints of right or wrong answers.
