Day 37 - Texas - High Plains Food Bank

Though chilly, Amarillo in the winter does not boast the biting chill, but instead features the type of cold that lingers in the air, slowly numbing your extremities. In preparation for our day outside, Tim and I layered, throwing on gloves, ear warmers, and thick socks. At the High Plains Food Bank, Tim and I helped out in the community produce garden. In the morning, we helped build the compost stalls, and helped to turn the compost piles, layering snow and rotting produce between the layers. The piles were steaming and taking on a black brown hue – soon to be ebony soil. In the afternoon, Tim was able to use his engineering background to help lay the base shape of a bed, the shape that we later cleared out, shoveling snow and ice to the side to make room for the cinderblock shell.
