Day 31 - North Dakota - Great Plains Food Bank

Setting in rapt attention, we ate venison curry and listened to a number of stories (or numbered stories, I should say, as the teller’s swore she could identify them as #62, or #154) about the area, the newspaper business, and various people he had interviewed. Worked at the Great Plains Food Bank, labeling bulk goods, and putting together boxes of staple items. Struggling in the beginning, trying to fit the puzzle pieces of the different sized cans, boxes, and bags into the one box, packing, unpacking, and repacking to get the pieces to fit. After establishing a method, split up duties to maximize efficiency – Tim parceling goods into four boxes he towed behind him on a dolly, depositing them on the table, where neatly repacked and sealed the boxes. Lunched with a lovely couple that understood our desire to try a variety of regional cuisines, and treated us with their kindness and conversation. Packed bags of food for the backpack program, speedily constructing parcels to meet the pickup deadline. Finished with seconds to spare.
